The Yogyakarta State University Postgraduate Strategic Plan 2020-2025 is a continuation of the UNY Postgraduate Strategic Plan 2015-2019 and is one of the stages of the UNY Postgraduate Long-Term Planning 2009-2025.

The preparation of this UNY Postgraduate Strategic Plan (Renstra) is based on internal changes in governance as stipulated in the Yogyakarta State University Statutes (Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Regulation No. 35 of 2017), the Organization and Work Procedures of Yogyakarta State University (Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Regulation No. 2 of 2019), and the transfer of some master's and doctoral programs to monodisciplinary fields (UNY Rector's Regulation No. 9 of 2020, UNY Rector's Decrees No. 2.7/UN34/VIII/2020 and No. 3.7/UN34/VIII/2020). In addition, this Renstra update is also intended to accommodate external developments related to government policies in the implementation of higher education such as the policy on naming study programs at universities (Permenristekdikti Number 15 of 2017), changes to national standards for higher education (Permenristekdikti Number 50 of 2018), the establishment, changes, dissolution of state universities, and the establishment, changes, and revocation of permits for private universities (Permenristekdikti Number 51 of 2018), organizational evaluation within the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Permenristekdikti Number 57 of 2017), Independent Campus and Independent Learning, and so on. Based on these considerations, the UNY Postgraduate Program carried out a comprehensive evaluation and re-drafted the Renstra. Therefore, the 2020-2025 UNY Postgraduate Strategic Plan is based on: the 2020-2025 UNY Strategic Plan, the UNY Long-Term Development Plan Towards WCU 2025, the 2019 UNY Postgraduate Organizational Structure and Duties, and the results of a self-evaluation that illustrates the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the UNY Postgraduate Program.

The 2020-2025 UNY Postgraduate Strategic Plan represents the development direction of the UNY Postgraduate Program over the next five years and serves as the basis for developing work programs for study programs and work units within the UNY Postgraduate Program.
